The Consign House Story

5/18/25 From Palms to Pines: Opening Two Home Décor Consignment Shops (Because I Clearly Like Chaos)

Hey y’all — Melissa here.
I blinked and suddenly, I am opening another home décor consignment shop. The first one I owned was in sunny Florida where the humidity hugs you like an uninvited guest, and now—drumroll please—I am soon to open one in good ol’ Tennessee, where the tea is sweet, the mountains are magic, and everybody still waves at you from their porch (well sometimes).

Let me tell you, it all started with a serious love affair… with throw pillows.

Okay, maybe not just pillows—but anything that makes a house feel like home. I’ve been painting, decorating, staging, flipping, refurbishing, rearranging and downright obsessing over home décor for over 20 years. If it can be styled, fluffed, or painted in “just the right shade of warm taupe,” I’m all in.

So naturally, opening a consignment shop where gently loved décor items get a second chance at being fabulous just made sense. What didn’t make sense? Doing it twice. In two states. In two very different climates.

Let’s break it down, shall we?

📍 Florida Shop – Where everything comes with a breeze (or a hurricane warning). Here, shoppers love their coastal cool vibes, driftwood accents, and a pop of flamingo pink. My AC bill was offensive, but hey—the chairs are cute, the candles smell like sea salt, and the people? Pure gold.

📍 Tennessee Shop – My Southern soul’s happy place. Think cozy cottagecore, antique finds, and all things bless your heart. I traded the beach breeze for mountain air and fireflies—and honestly? Zero regrets. I hope this shop has all the warmth of a hug from your favorite aunt and just the right mix of modern farmhouse and vintage charm.

Is running a consignment shop slightly insane?
Well… yes. I’ve got receipts flying, consignors texting me pictures of candlesticks at 11pm, and I’m pretty sure I once steamed a table runner in my sleep. But every bit of it has been so worth it.

Because for me, this isn’t just about furniture or art or accessories. It’s about storytelling. Every piece in the shop has a past—and now it gets to be part of someone else's future. That’s what I love about consignment. It’s sustainable, affordable, and totally full of character—kinda like your favorite Southern relative.

So whether you’re treasure hunting in Florida or Tennessee, come say hey. Bring your gently used finds, sip a little sweet tea, and let’s make your home feel like you

Until then,
Keep it cute, keep it cozy, and never underestimate the power of a throw blanket.

Y’all come see me,
Melissa
